Mumbai: The Maharashtra Police will file the chargesheet on Tuesday in the Malegaon blast case before a special court as the judicial custody of the 11 accused comes to an end.
The case was being probed by Joint Commissioner Hemant Karkare before he fell victim to the terror strike of 26/11 in Mumbai. A serving Army officer was also arrested in connection with the case.
The police chargesheet will be based on confessions of the accused. The suspects are-- Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Shivnarayan Kalsangra Singh, Shamlal Sahu, Sameer Kulkarni, Retired Major Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Rakesh Dhawade, Jagdish Mahatre, Lt Col. Prasad Purohit and Swami Dyanand Pandey.
Apart from an eyewitness account of a conversation between one of the accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and the alleged key conspirator Ramji Kalsangra, the police also have a statement from Ajay Rahirkar, treasurer of Abhinav Bharat, who said he transferred Rs 10 lakh from the outfit to fund the blasts.
Another accused Rakesh Dhawde has allegedly admitted that he was responsible for the arms and explosive training in Sinhagad.
An auto repair shop owner from Indore, has told investigators, the bike used in Malegaon blasts was brought to his workshop by Ramji.
"We have all the evidence we need," said K P Raghuvanshi, Chief, Anti-Terror Squad.
However, there are still some weak points in the police case.
The police have charged most of those caught for conspiracy, but they still haven't zeroed in on those directly involved in the plot like making the bomb and planting it.
One of the main accused Lt Col Prasad Purohit has not yet confessed to his role.
The police say despite the setback following the death of ATS chief Hemant Karkare, the investigations are back on track. And they would seal the case once they find Kalsagre and Sandeep Dangle the alleged planters of the bomb in Malegaon. |
