Fuel prices to be cut again
Mumbai: Another reduction in fuel prices is round the corner. In the next few weeks, petrol will be cheaper by Rs.5 a litre, diesel by Rs.3 a litre, and cooking gas (LPG) by Rs.20-25 a cylinder, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said Saturday. Reserve Bank cuts key rates to spur economy
Mumbai, Jan 2 (IANS) In a bid to lower the cost of borrowings for commercial banks, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Friday cut the both the repurchase and reverse-repurchase rates by 100 basis points each, while reducing the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by 0.5 percent points. 'The reduction in the CRR will inject additional liquidity of around Rs.20,000 crore (Rs.200 billion/$4 billion),' the central bank said in a statement, while announcing a further monetary stimulus to prop the economy.

MANGALORE, December 26, 2008: The KSRTC today launched its services to the neighboring district in Kerala State-Kasargod. The ten new vehicles will ply between the two cities at an interval of 20 minutes from 6am morning to 10 pm. Vacationing Indian boy drowns in Riyadh ravine
RIYADH: An Indian student who came to Riyadh on holiday to visit his parents drowned in a stream while playing with friends in a valley outside Riyadh on Tuesday. A Civil Defense official, who took part in the rescue operation, said Mohammed Jazeel, an 18-year-old engineering student, slipped into the water while playing close by. The stream is at least 12 feet deep. The official added that the student was wearing the same clothes and shoes that he had on when he left home. Officials ruled out any foul play. Jazeel, who previously studied at the International Indian School, Riyadh, left the Kingdom last year to pursue higher studies in India.

Madras HC allows Ghajini release, producer to pay Rs5 crore
In a nail-biting finish, the Madras High Court on Wednesday allowed the release of Amir Khan-starrer Ghajini on the condition that producers of the Hindi remake of a 2005 Tamil film by the same name, deposit Rs5 crore in court. On Tuesday, a single judge of the Madras HC had stayed the release of the film in an application filed by A Chandrasekaran of Sri Saravana Creations, producers of the Tamil version of the movie. Hearing the appeal against the order, a two-judge bench gave a green signal to the film’s release after Allu Arvind, producer of the Hindi remake, promised to deposit Rs3 crore on Wednesday. “The remaining Rs2 crore have to be deposited in court before December 31, the next date of hearing,” Chandrasekran’s lawyer G Ananthrangam told DNA.

PM reviews security preparedness

A rape in every 1000 minutes; Delhi unsafe
New Delhi: Delhi seems to be the most unsafe city among the four metros in India, with the national capital witnessing a rape in every thousand minutes, if one goes by a latest government data. The Delhi city, excluding rural areas, witnessed a rape every 1003.1 minute last year while for Mumbai the figure was 3020.7 minutes, the statistics prepared by National Crime Records Bureau said. MANGALORE Dec 19: The Mangalore division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to introduce buses to Kasaragod next week, albeit on a scale lower than what was originally promised. The division had received 10 double-door buses from Bangalore against the 25 originally planned, said divisional traffic officer G.T. Prabhakara Reddy.
